Important Steps for Every Muslim : Umrah Rituals

Umrah Step by Step Guide followed by Video –

Performing Umrah and Umrah Rituals is a dream for any Muslim and it involves several rituals. Here’s a general transcript outlining the steps involved:

  1. Ihram: Before entering the state of Ihram, one must perform a ritual bath (ghusl) and don special garments called Ihram. For men, this consists of two unstitched white cloths, while women can wear their usual modest clothing. Upon wearing Ihram, intentions (niyyah) for Umrah are made.
  2. Talbiyah: Recite the Talbiyah, a declaration of intention and devotion, saying: “Labbayk, Allahumma labbayk. Labbayk, la sharika laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni’mata laka wal-mulk. La sharika lak.
  3. Tawaf: Enter the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and perform Tawaf. This involves circumambulating the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction. Each circuit begins from the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad) corner. Men are encouraged to perform Raml (a brisk walk) during the first three circuits, if possible.
  4. Prayer: After completing Tawaf, perform two Rak’ahs of prayer behind Maqam Ibrahim, if possible. Otherwise, any place within the Masjid al-Haram is acceptable.
  5. Sa’i: Proceed to perform Sa’i by walking seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa, emulating Hajar’s search for water for her son Isma’il. Begin at Safa and end at Marwa, making a total of seven rounds.
  6. Trimming/Cutting Hair: Men are required to shave their heads or trim their hair after completing the Sa’i. Women typically trim a small portion of their hair.
  7. Tahallul: After completing the rituals, exit the state of Ihram by performing another ritual bath (ghusl) and changing into regular clothing.
  8. Optional Acts: Throughout the Umrah journey, there are several recommended acts and supplications that one can perform. These include additional prayers, seeking forgiveness, and making personal prayers at the Multazam (the area between the Kaaba and the door of the Kaaba).
